Series: Protestant Camporee Religious Service
Category: District Resources
Author: Amanda Vogt
When planning a district or council camporee, worship services can sometimes feel like an afterthought—or worse, a dry, repetitive chore. We’ve all sat through services where traditional songs are sung that don’t quite fit the weekend’s energy, followed by a long, static sermon that loses the youth within two minutes.
It doesn’t have to be that way!
Whether your camporee theme is Space Exploration, Pioneering, or Outdoor Adventure, your Duty to God programming should feel just as active, engaging, and themed as your afternoon activity stations.
To help adult leaders and Chaplain Aides across the country, the National Religious Relationships Committee is launching a series of downloadable, fully customizable camporee service packages.
Our inaugural resource—“Space Exploration: Navigating by Faith”—is available for download today!
What’s Inside the Resource Package?
We designed this Word document so that any Scouter or Youth Chaplain Aide can pick it up and run a smooth, high-impact Protestant service—no seminary degree or formal chaplain training required!
Inside the downloadable package, you’ll find:
- 📄 Leader Master Copy (Pages 2–7): A step-by-step master script for the adult leader or Chaplain containing the full order of service, scripture references, full song lyrics, and cues.
- ✂️ Youth Reader Cards (Pages 8–9): Ready-to-print, cut-apart cards for six youth readers. Each card includes clear instructions telling the Scout exactly what to read and when.
- 🎭 Interactive Scout Skit Cards (Page 10): A quick, lighthearted, four-person skit titled “Lost in Space (and the Wilderness)”. It requires minimal props (a flashlight, cardboard tube, and walking stick) and brings biblical explorers like Abraham and the Magi to life in a way Scouts will remember.
- ⏱️ 5-Minute “Hard-Hit” Sermon: A brief, compelling message titled “Mission Control is Still on the Line,” drawing connections between Buzz Aldrin taking communion on the Moon, galaxy creation, and trusting God as our ultimate tether in life.
- 📖 Audience Printable Program (Pages 11–12): A clean, two-page layout ready to print for attendees so everyone can follow along with responsive readings and sing along to classic, upbeat songs like This Is My Father’s World, Awesome God, and Shine, Jesus, Shine!
How to Use This Resource
- Download the Word Document using the link below. Because it’s an editable .docx file, you can tweak scripture translations, swap out songs, or adjust roles to fit your unit or district size.
- Print your copies: Print pages 8–10 to cut up for your Scout readers and skit players, and print pages 11–12 double-sided for your audience.
- Hand out the cards 15 minutes before the service: Give your Scout participants a quick 5-minute walkthrough, and you’re ready for countdown!
Download & Deploy at Your Next Camporee
